Alexandre Miranda, MD, Ph.D., FECSM, graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2001. He did his medical residency in General Surgery at Santa Casa de São Paulo (2002 - 2004) and his second medical residency in urology at the Ipanema Federal Hospital (2004-2007). He received his master's degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro in 2009, with the study of the effects of Late Hormone Replacement therapy on the Penile corpora cavernosa. He created the Andrology section at the department of Urology at Ipanema Federal Hospital in the end of 2007, where he started to dedicate himself to genital reconstructive surgeries and andrology. He introduced new techniques in reconstructive surgeries for penile curvatures, such as Peyronie's disease. In 2011 he did an observership in reconstructive uroandrology with the renowned Professor Edoardo Austoni, at the University of Milan, going deeper into genital reconstructions. He participated in surgeries with Austoni in Regio Emillia, Lecco, Genova and Milan. In July 2012, he was the only Brazilian to be awarded a scholarship in Sexual Medicine at St Catherine's College, Oxford (England), by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) in association with the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM). In December 2012, he passed the qualifying examination of the European Society for Sexual Medicine, earning the title of Fellow of the European Committee of Sexual Medicine (FECSM). In March 2014, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, with the creation of a new surgical technique for Peyronie's disease (iGrafter). Aside from the iGrafter creation, Dr. Alexandre Miranda was also the inventor of the first training model for plaque incision and grafting for Peyronie's disease correction, printed in 3D (2021). Also, he developed the new Auxetic technique (2022) to recover penile length and girth during penile prosthesis insertion. In addition, he created and registered a patent for a surgical tool to allow the use of the Auxetic technique.
Atualmente coordena o Setor de Andrology do Serviço de Urologia do Hospital Federal de Ipanema, no Rio de Janeiro. Coordena também o departamento de medicina sexual/infertidade da Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia – Rio de janeiro (SBU-RJ) (2022-2023).
Membro da International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA), European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) e American Urological Association (AUA).
